Beyond the Lake è un progetto fotografico che racconta la Galizia rurale e il confine con il nord del Portogallo attraverso storie di persone e luoghi segnati da emigrazione, spopolamento, alcolismo, conflitti territoriali e trasformazioni ambientali. Queste vicende individuali diventano il simbolo di un territorio sospeso tra tradizione, mito e crisi contemporanea. Il progetto affronta anche temi ambientali, come l'espansione delle piantagioni di eucalipto e il controverso progetto industriale di Altri, considerati esempi di un modello economico che privilegia il profitto a scapito della biodiversità, delle risorse idriche e della sostenibilità delle comunità locali. L'opera ha una forte dimensione autobiografica: l'autore è figlio di una persona morta prematuramente a causa dell'alcolismo, nipote di emigranti ed egli stesso ha vissuto per molti anni lontano dalla Galizia. Molte fotografie sono state realizzate nei luoghi della sua infanzia e della sua famiglia. Attraverso l'intreccio tra realtà sociale, memoria personale e immaginario leggendario, Beyond the Lake diventa una riflessione sulla perdita, sull'identità e sulla resilienza di una comunità che cerca di preservare la propria storia di fronte ai cambiamenti del presente.

Beyond the Lake is a photographic project that explores rural Galicia and the border with northern Portugal through stories of people and places shaped by emigration, depopulation, alcoholism, territorial conflicts, and environmental transformations. These individual stories become symbols of a territory suspended between tradition, myth, and contemporary crisis. The project also addresses environmental issues, such as the expansion of eucalyptus plantations and Altri's controversial industrial project, both considered examples of an economic model that prioritizes profit at the expense of biodiversity, water resources, and the sustainability of local communities. The work has a strong autobiographical dimension: the author is the son of someone who died prematurely as a result of alcoholism, the grandson of emigrants, and himself lived away from Galicia for many years. Many of the photographs were taken in places connected to his childhood and family. Through the intertwining of social reality, personal memory, and legendary imagery, Beyond the Lake becomes a reflection on loss, identity, and the resilience of a community striving to preserve its history in the face of the changes of the present.
